County Level Easily Accessible Resource

Welcome to the CLEAR prototype. This project was initiated to provide Texas landowners with a unique look at their natural resources. The two counties of Washington and Gillespie were chosen to test this project. The CLEAR system allows you to view different types of data such as soils, vegetation, streams, roads, and more as part of an interactive mapping system. You will also be able to view photo imagery at one meter resolution for both Washington and Gillespie counties.

This project is a partnership between the Texas Cooperative Extension Program and the citizens and partners in Washington and Gillespie County. Additional viewing layers provided through this partnership include property boundaries provided by the Central Appraisal Districts of Washington and Gillespie county.

Statewide data is also available for interactive viewing through the CLEAR system.

CLEAR Indepth Overview

CLEAR is an Internet-based delivery system for landowners and other decision-makers to enhance their land management capabilities. This tool provides a window through which users may view and manipulate spatial (map-based) data at the local level.

Land use decisions at the local level suffer from a lack of access to site-specific antural resources information.
Many rural areas, especially those near urban centers are going through a rapid transistion in land ownership and use. Faced with escalating rural land values and declining incomes from agricultural production, landowners are confronted with important land use decisions. These decisions are driving the current trends toward increased ownership fragmentation and urban sprawl into areas important for natural resources management.
